So, today in class I reviewed fact vs opinion with my 4th grade readers. We also discussed the slippery slope – the informed opinion. An informed opinion is an opinion that has notably been backed up with facts.
I though it was fitting to end this A-Z Fairy Tale challenge with the foremost living expert on Fairy Tales: Jack Zipes. (See what I did there?) The previous statement is my informed opinion. May I now present the facts?
Prior t retiring, Zipes was an American Professor of German at the University of Minnesota. He has published and lectured on the evolution of fairy tales. If you every need to write a paper on fairy tales and and their impact on political and social issues, Zipes your one stop expert reference. He holds multiple degrees including a BA in Political Science (1959), a Masters in English and Comparative Literature (1960), and a PhD in Comparative Literature. Before retiring he was the head of the Department of German, Scandinavian, and Dutch at the University of Minnesota. Most notably he is know for translating the complete collection of the Brothers Grimm.
He has authored, translated, and edited over 30 books on fairy tales.
